It
is the end of the summer for some, for others
it's 325 days until the next summer at 49er
camp. Friday, August, 13, 2004 was the last
day of camp. Every year for the past 39
years CSULB hosts the 49er camp summer recreation
youth activity program, "We offer a
wide range of activities for the children,"
said Bob Wuesthoff, Director of the 49er
camp.
There
are two 4 week sessions. "We had 500
children the first session, and 380 the
second session," Wueshoff added. The
age range of children is 5-12-years old.
The children are split to four groups, 5-6
1/2, 6 - 8, 8 - 9, 9 -12. Depending on age
and skill ability each child is placed in
one of four groups, and each group does
and activity every day.
Some
of the activities the children had to pick
from were dance and rhythm for the girls,
swim and swim instruction, track and field,
golf, baseball, bowling, gymnastics, and
tennis.
Providing
the children with the increased physical
fitness and the outstanding continuity of
instruction in a variety of activities can
be an enjoyable learning experience in a
college experience, even though the children
won't be attending college for a while,
is Wuesthoff's motive.
Children
participating in these summer activities
are come from all over LA Orange County.
The
cost of 49er summer camp is $425 a child
per session. The next session of camp will
start in the summer of 2005. The first session
is from June 27 through July 19. The second
session starts from July 25 through August
19. |
