Redesign
modernizes paper, strengthens campus coverage
This issue marks the beginning of a new
design for the Daily Forty-Niner that is
aimed towards better expressing the news
of the campus.
As
a newly independent newspaper, starting
approximately one year ago, the design is
only a topical treatment for the evolving
paper. Along with this design, the paper
has changed some of the staff that works
for the paper, namely creating more of a
photo department on the paper.
In
this redesign, the main change beyond fonts
and rules, is the "News in a Few"
section in the left column of the front
page. This column will not be cluttered
by far away news of Washington and cities
CSULB students cannot relate to —
it will be news that affects or interests
the campus. From campus to international
news, the section will also feature a calendar
section at the bottom. This calendar section
will include only the most current events
and a full calendar section will be available
on our Web site.
Also,
to bring our readers beyond the news contained
in our sometimes four pages — we will
be adding more online stories and photo
essays that will be included in our news
briefs but that will jump to the web. This
is designed to give our readers more content
beyond our paper and ink.
It
is hoped that this new design, along with
our other changes, will help the Daily Forty-Niner
in its role of informing the CSULB campus
population.
