Fred
Neely, Director of Bookstore Services at
Cal State Long Beach was named the 2003-04
Outstanding Staff Member of the Year.
Bob
Rodgers, a multi-media technician and university
staff member sat on the panel to select
the outstanding staff member of the year
award.
"Fred
received many glowing letters of recommendation
and is active on many campus wide committees.
He has supported many campus events and
is an active participant in many of them.
Fred is the first staff member from the
bookstore to receive this award," Rodgers
said.
The
outstanding staff member of the year is
determined on a candidate's years of service,
letters of recommendation and service to
the campus. The award has been awarded to
a staff member for the past ten years.
Neely
has been a part of the CSULB family for
18 years. Hired in January 1986, he started
as warehouse manager of the bookstore and
after six months he was put in charge of
overseeing all of the operations. Six months
later he went to general merchandise and
less than two years later he was named the
director of the bookstore.
"My
intentions when I started working here was
never to become bookstore director of CSULB,"
Neely said. "Who I am today is a combination
of all that, but a lot of that as far as
my professional life has to do with the
campus and the opportunities given to me
by the 49er shops to spread my wings a little
bit."
