Former
Dirtbag may return this weekend
SEATTLE (AP) -- An MRI test on Oakland shortstop
Bobby Crosby showed a bone bruise on his
left knee, and manager Ken Macha said Wednesday
night the rookie should return by the end
of the weekend.
Crosby,
who took over when Miguel Tejada went to
Baltimore as a free agent, left in the fourth
inning of Tuesday's loss at Seattle after
colliding with left fielder Bobby Kielty
while catching a second-inning popup.
He
returned to Oakland for an MRI and additional
treatment Wednesday morning. The injury
appeared mostly to be swelling, and while
results were encouraging Macha wouldn't
say more than that Crosby could return ''sometime
this week.''
''I'm
being vague on that subject,'' he said.
Marco
Scutaro, who started all 14 games at second
base, was listed at shortstop for Wednesday
night's game against the Mariners. The A's
open a three-game home series Friday against
Anaheim, and infield depth could be a problem.
Mark
McLemore took grounders, ran the bases and
hit during a workout Wednesday afternoon,
but Macha indicated the utility man isn't
ready to return from March 20 surgery to
repair a torn knee ligament.
''He's
got a way to go,'' Macha said.
