    Despite unrelenting rain and a temperature of only 50-degrees, several sororities came out in force on Sunday morning to compete in the first ever Holiday Bowl to benefit Toys for Tots.

  • Our View: Coral reefs fight back against bleaching
    The global warming that is changing the environment and weather has not dampened the spirits of the coral reefs. Around 24 percent of the coral reefs in the world are at risk of being annihilated by human activities, according to the Status of Coral Reefs of the World 2004, but many of these reefs are showing immense strength fighting negative effects of global warming.
  • L.B. red light cameras unnecessary expense
    Red light cameras have been prominent on the corners of Long Beach since the late 90s, but many of these cameras have been turned off since August pending the renewal of a contract with Nestor Traffic Systems, the company providing the recording system.

  • Woodie Awards recognize bands in the college music scene
    MTV U kicked off this winter with the first annual Woodie Awards, which recognize up-and-coming artists in the music scene. Determined entirely by the college audience, this awards show recognizes artists and music that have made an impact on the college scene.

Sports

  • Schultz scores four goals, 49ers topple Palmer
    The Long Beach State ice hockey team had four players contribute multiple-goal games over the weekend, including a four-goal game by senior forward Matt Schultz to defeat Palmer College Friday and Saturday night.
