Newspaper,
campus evolve over years
Fifty-five years ago, the Daily
Forty-Niner made its first appearance
on the campus of Cal State Long
Beach. Only it wasn't called the
Daily Forty-Niner, and it wasn't
called California State University,
Long Beach.
- The
Pyramid stands loud and proud at
CSULB
Since opening its doors 10 years
ago, The Pyramid has become one
of the most recognizable structures
on campus, serving as a backdrop
for Cal State Long Beach students.
- Daily
Forty-Niner has long history of
covering campus news, events
The Daily Forty-Niner has covered
thousands of stories over the last
55 years. The outpouring of art
and entertainment, the development
of various campus structures, the
start of budget cuts and new technology,
the affirmative action program,
safe sex promotions and the threat
of terrorism are only a few of the
many topics the newspaper covered.
- The
joint starts jumping with KKJZ
It's been 23 years since Cal State
Long Beach became the home of KKJZ,
which was known as KLON when it
came to CSULB in 1981. KKJZ is the
No. 1 rated jazz station in the
country, and the only full-time
station in the Los Angeles area
broadcasting mainstream acoustic
jazz.
- ‘Halo
2’ blasts away the competition
The messiah arrived for first-person
shooter fans on Tuesday in the form
of "Halo 2," the sequel
to Bungie Studios' incalculably
popular sci-fi epic.
Sports
- Professional
athletes stem from CSULB sports
teams
Since the creation of the Daily
Forty-Niner 55 years ago, staff
writers and editors have had the
privilege of witnessing and reporting
on numerous outstanding athletes
at Cal State Long Beach. Some of
these CSULB alumni athletes go on
to professional sports and the Olympic
Games.
- Hawkins
a golden addition to 49ers
The men's basketball team needed
to find an impact player, and it
seems junior transfer Shawn Hawkins
is going to be the man to fill that
role after he scored a game-high
21 points during the 49ers' 78-43
win Friday in The Pyramid, making
him this week's Nugget in the Rough.
