Diversions

  • "Fahrenhype 9/11" seeks to set the record straight
On Oct. 29, The Conservative Student Union and the Long Beach College Republicans sponsored a screening of "Fahrenhype 9/11," a film that was made in response to Michael Moore's hit documentary "Fahrenheit 9/11."
  • Long Beach showcases fashion and voodoo
On Thursday, Oct. 29, downtown restaurant Nagas on the Water was transformed into a fashion show with a nightclub atmosphere. Innovative designer and CSULB student May Salem, 22, conducted the show "Voo Dou: The Art of Living" to introduce the fall and spring collection of Astamaya, her clothing line.

Sports

  • 49ers finally fun to watch
    Intensity. Defense. Energy.
Those three words escaped the Long Beach State men's basketball team last season, and eventually turned them in to the laughing stock of the Big West Conference and the school.
  • Beach top Anteaters
Saturday's women's volleyball match pairing Long Beach State against UC Irvine at The Pyramid could be called the clash of the identical. Both teams entered the contest with three-match win streaks, a record of 9-4 in the Big West Conference, and most noticeably, both teams are out of the American Volleyball Coaches Association Top-25 Poll.
  • 49ers crush Tritons in exhibition opener
The men's basketball team welcomed the UC San Diego Tritons in an exhibition game in The Pyramid Friday night. The Tritons received a rude welcome and were sent home with a 78-43 defeat in front of 1,587 fans.
