News

  • Clinton visit brings presidential election to The Beach
Senator Hillary Clinton's visit to Cal State Long Beach on Friday not only brought together women to support John Kerry and John Edwards, but also the Long Beach State Democrats who in August 2004 started up again after a two-year absence.

Opinion

  • Our View: Candidates leave much to be desired
In the final presidential debate, the nation finally got a few definitive answers from our cumbersome candidates. This year's election is going to be a choice between the lesser of two evils, may the best man win.
  • Terrorism's answer is humiliation and respect
How does someone find the will to kill themselves in an act of terrorism? Where do these people come from? We would like to believe that these suicide terrorists simply come from the Middle East and drop the discussion.
  • Letter to the editor
John F. Kerry doesn't think we are stupid, but he does hope we aren't as ignorant as Chenin Simi was in the Oct. 13 issue of the 49er.
Diversions
Sports
  • 49ers collapse in third round; place 15th
Coming off its best team and individual single round performance, the men's golf team shot a poor 313 in the last round, finishing with a total of 908 at the Alister Mackenzie Invitational held at the Meadow Club in Fairfax.
  • 49ers sail over Waves in double overtime
After being edged out in a one-point defeat by UC San Diego last week, Long Beach State returned the favor to Pepperdine as they dodged the Waves in double overtime to win 9-8 on Saturday at The Campus Pool.
