The
women's golf team tied for second place
at the rain-shortened Azteck Fall Invitational,
held at The Auld Course in Chula Vista.
The Beach played two outstanding rounds
to finish with a total of 601 strokes
— 11 back from first-place Baylor.
"This
was a complete team effort," 49ers'
Head Coach Sue Ewart said. "They
have been playing well recently and we
had a little redemption for the scores
that we shot in Seattle a couple of weeks
ago at the Edean Ihlanfeldt. That was
a very tough course. But I believe that
tournament just toughened them up. We
are very team-oriented this year. Eloise
[Vicencio] was the only one who didn't
finish last night and the whole team went
out in the pouring rain this morning and
watched her finish up her final hole.
This was a good finish to the fall and
we'll build on this for the spring."
Freshman
Kay Hoey led the way again for the 49ers,
shooting a two-over-par 146 — good
enough for a fourth place tie. Sophomore
Eloise Vicencio tied for 14th place with
a 150.
The
women's golf team will have a long lay-off
until the next tournament, which is scheduled
for Feb. 21.
