Long
Beach State will be holding its fifth
annual kick-off event, "Beach Bash"
on Sunday, Oct. 10 from 3 to 6 p.m. at
the Rugby Field.
This
year festivities will be headlined by
a dodge ball tournament that will include
Associated Students Inc. (ASI), administration,
student-athletes and sports trainers.
"The
events are intended to bring departments,
boosters, faculty and students on campus
together to build commodore" Advisor
to Staff, Candice Chick said.
All
of Long Beach State's students are invited
to come and admission is free. Tickets
for boosters and parents are available
for $10 and can be purchased at The Pyramid
Box Office or by calling (562) 985-4949.
The admission cost will cover all activities
for the day's event, and will also include
a barbeque lunch. Students attending will
receive food on a first-come-first-serve
basis following the paying guest.
This
year's event has been aptly renamed, "Prospector
Pete's Beach Bash Olympics" and President
Robert C. Maxson will address the crowd.
The Executive Director of Athletics, Bill
Shumard will also be attendance.
Other
events at The Bash will include a three-legged
flipper race, water balloon toss, tug-a-war
with mixed goo of ketchup in the middle
and an end zone touchdown dance competition.
In
previous years, the Beach Bash was held
at The Point inside the The Pyramid, but
it was for student athletes and coaches
only. However, the agenda for the festivities
has changed.
"This
year we want to get everyone involved,"
Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC)
President, Kevin Cape said. "We want
to see everyone there. We want to help
grow the campus community."
Any
students interested in participating in
the day's events should contact Sally
Bulquerin in the Beach Pride Center at
(562)985-2519 or Morgan Wheeler of ASI
at (562)985-5241.
"It
will be a blast. And the boosters and
parents will even have a chance to get
involved and take their shot at a student-athlete,"
Cape said. "But a friendly shot,
of course."
