Nugget in the Rough

Jimmy Grabow took first place at the UC Irvine Invite on Saturday in his first race as a 49er to earn the Nugget in the Rough honors for this week.

Grabow left the pack at the half-mile mark in the 5K run, and never fell out of first place finishing with a time of 25 minutes, 21 seconds.

"He is a well built athlete," Head Coach Andy Sythe said. "He has the athleticism to compete at the top end of the conference and maybe even nationally."

Grabow transferred from San Bernadino Valley College where he won the 2003 cross country conference championship.

Grabow attended Rim of the World high school and was a two-time All-League selection in cross country. He ran a personal best 15:59 at the 2001 Mt.SAC relays.
