Alpha
Phi held their fourth fundraising event
of the fall semester at their sorority
house in Long Beach on Sept. 29. The event's
$3 admission fee helped raise money for
the Alpha Phi foundation.
Alpha
Phi is the only sorority at Cal State
Long Beach to have its own foundation.
Alpha
Phi donates 100 percent of its fundraising
proceeds to its chosen philanthropy for
the semester, Women's Cardiac Care.
Natalie
Barr, the director of marketing for the
sorority house and the person responsible
for holding the "Trailer Park Bash"
fundraiser said more than 520,000 women
experienced a heart attack last year.
Barr
is very passionate about creating awareness
for students and members alike because
she believes people should know the leading
causes of death in women.
Attendees
of the "Trailer Park Bash" fundraiser
dressed according to the theme, and the
house was decorated with string lights
and crushed soda cans. The girls danced
the night away to DJ Jason Holdridge's
mixes.
"This
event is great because we earn money for
a wonderful cause and we get to dress
up and have fun doing it," said Alpha
Phi member Christina Cartaino.
Not
only does the Alpha Phi foundation give
donations for research on Women's Cardiac
Care, but they also issue scholarships
within the sorority, give money to the
"Red Dress Project" on campus
and participate in "Adopt a Family"
every Christmas.
In
order to raise as much money as possible,
the girls invited all of the Greek and
cultural sororities and fraternities to
the house.
Angela
Cortez, the social chair of Alpha Phi
said everyone was supportive of each other
and came to have a good time.
