Cal State Long Beach is hosting Graduate
and Professional Schools Day today from
10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Speakers Platform
near the University Bookstore.
The
event sponsored by the CSULB Educational
Equity Services is designed to give all
students the chance to learn more about
graduate and professional school programs
from all over the country. Representatives
from the schools will be on hand to answer
questions and provide valuable information.
Bobbie
Rodgers, EOP counselor and program coordinator
said, "The program is designed to
give Cal State Long Beach students the
opportunity to explore graduate programs
outside the campus itself from some of
the top schools in the country."
Rodgers, who has been coordinating the
program for the past six years, encourages
all students to come to the event. She
stated that although the program is designed
for upper division students, all students
should attend because "four years
goes by fast."
Joelle
Pretty, academic and career counselor
and co-chair of the program, also reiterated
the fact that all students should attend.
"Come just to explore," Pretty
said.
Rare,
due to the fact that some of the biggest
names from around the country are planning
to partake in the event, including USC,
UCLA, Thomas Jefferson School of Law,
Notre Dame, Stanford, UC Berkeley School
of Law and many more.
Students
will be able to get information regarding
admission requirements, financial aid,
what each school is looking for in students,
and how the school ranks among others.
Rodgers also said that the event, "Gives
students the opportunity to fill out applications
and send it to a person, which is beneficial
in that it creates a valuable contact."
Instead of filling out an application
and sending it to an office, students
will be able to send it to a specific
member of the school thereby creating
a more personal liaison.
Rodgers
said that any undergraduate school one
decides to attend will give them a good
education, but "when choosing a graduate
school you want a good ranking school.
