We
have all heard the call of the blue t-shirt
that yells things out in some strange
foreign language. But it's all Greek to
us. What's that Zeus? Oh yes, it must
be fraternity and sorority season again,
a time for 49ers (and Dirtbags) to question
the potential of their very own social
lives. However, some have successfully
dodged (skills acquired in sports play)
these temptations.
On
campus involvement, physical fitness and
new friendships await at the doors of
the Intramural Sports office. Tame that
beer belly and close that pocket book.
For the small fee of $10 per free agent,
you can participate in a number of co-ed
or same gender sports teams. But if you
are more into the group thing, there is
a team option where cost and number of
players varies from sport to sport.
If
ou have a group of 15 you can either play
co-ed flag football, open softball, co-ed
softball, co-ed soccer or single sex soccer.
With 10 players you can play six feet
and under basketball or open basketball.
Or try teams of eight with the option
of women's basketball or co-ed volleyball.
For smaller groups there is a three-on-three
basketball league. The rosters final due
date is on Sept. 24, but it is highly
recommended that you register ahead of
time to ensure a spot on a team.
If
you do not play well with others try signing
up for a more solitary sport like golf,
tennis, badminton, dodge ball or Ultimate
Frisbee.
If
transportation is a problem, have no fear.
The meetings and games are all conveniently
located on the Cal State Long Beach campus.
Picture the beauty of an open parking
lot around game time and the freedom that
comes with it.
Director
of Intra-Mural Sports, Glen McDonald,
agrees that participation in Intra- Mural
sports is a great way to get involved
in campus activities in addition to helping
facilitate the opportunity to meet new
people.
"College
students out of high school tend to abandon
their sporting pastimes that they had
throughout their adolescent years,"
McDonald said. "Let intramural sports
at CSULB help to rekindle that physical
fitness, as well as friendships that we
all treasured in our youth."
Transfer
student Frances Xavier Smith, II, said,
"I played soccer throughout high
school and I felt so pumped to see the
flyer for co-ed soccer hanging in the
Student Union. Now I get to meet hot babes
and bust a sweat all at the same time.
I signed up as a free agent immediately
and have started training at my local
park."
If
you are interested in signing up or would
like more information, contact the Intramural
Sports Office located in PE-1, room 20
A. Or call 562-985-4668 Monday through
Friday 10a.m.– 4p.m.
