Campus keeps students entertained throughout the year

New students at Cal State Long Beach often wonder what there is to do besides go to classes. Typical questions are usually, "Where can I hang out during my downtime, besides the library?" or "Is there anything else I can do here besides learn?" Luckily for you, the answer is a resounding yes!

Most college students are into their music, and some even let it dictate their way of life. That being said, is there somewhere the discriminating music listener can go to spend their time and listen to their music, be it rap, punk, or anything in between? Located on the second floor of the University Student Union, the Music Listening Lounge offers couches, some coin-operated video games, and a DJ counter where you can request a certain song to be played within the lounge. It also has individual rentable booths and a study lounge.

While we're on the topic of music, CSULB also has numerous lunchtime concerts too. Much of the time they take place on the terrace opposite the cafeteria that houses the Taco Bell restaurant, but sometimes they also take place by the Beach Pride pool, which is located on the bottom floor of the University Student Union. Many local bands play in these free concerts, and a lot of the time radio stations such as KROQ and The Beat will come out to hand out free stuff and mingle with the students.

Believe it or not, CSULB also has its own movie theater! The Beach Auditorium is located on the bottom floor of the University Student Union, and plays brand new movies for about a buck a piece, and sometimes even has sneak-previews. Also on the bottom floor of the Union is an arcade for all the gamers out there, as well as comfortable chairs where you can rest, do homework, or watch the big-screen television which seems to always be featuring "Jerry Springer" and "Oprah."

Want to go to an off-campus event? Maybe you'd like to go to Halloween Haunt at Knott's Berry Farm or get some tickets for Disneyland? Simply head on down to the Photo Ticket Center, which is located on the second floor of the Union not far from the Music Listening Lounge, and pick up some discounted tickets. Also located at the ticket counter is a photo lab where you can develop your pictures, as well as a candy counter, where you can purchase anything from Skittles to Snickers to sour watermelon ties.

Long Beach State offers a full menu of services and events, many of which will probably appeal to the entertainment connoisseur in you. Here is a small recap:
• The Music Listening Lounge is located on the second floor of the union and is a great place to listen to tunes and just relax in-between classes.
• Look for free concerts and radio station appearances to be happening by the terrace opposite the cafeteria and the Beach Pride pool on the bottom floor of the Union.
• New movies and sneak-previews can be seen in the Beach Auditorium, close to the arcade and the big-screen television.
• The Photo Ticket Center, located close to the Music Listening Lounge, sells discounted tickets to amusement parks, develops your photos, and caters to your sweet-tooth.

Welcome to Long Beach State and feel free to take advantage of all of the services this great campus has to offer!
