Student
need to make their voices heard
Every day change, challenges and events
are continuously occurring on the Cal State
Long Beach campus. Each of these events
has the potential of touch our lives and
influence the way we go about our daily
routines. With so many dealings affecting
our campus it is important that students
take a stand in participating and voicing
out their opinions on how our university
should conduct its business.
There
are many events that may soon come into
play in how we manage our student life.
One area for example is the potential rise
of tuition on all 23 California State University
campuses. The possible 30 percent
increase will affect all of us and yet,
not everyone has taken the measures to be
informed about them, although the information
is out there. It is every student’s responsibility
to partake in the decision makings that
may affect our daily lives, and yet not
every student takes the time to participate
in events or in finding out information
about them.
We
cannot deny that college life is often overwhelmed
with the diverse and innumerable tasks that
include maintaining a well standing GPA,
a social life, a work or professional life
and in varying degrees a family life.
Juggling these aspects of life is quite
a challenge to students, but it is important
to find a balance and take an active roll
in informing ourselves about things that
may make our progress in pursuing our degree
more difficult or even longer.
Although
some students may not be able to participate
in student politics as actively as others
due to a variety of reasons and responsibilities,
there are other alternatives to participate
in student life that can be as simple as
picking up a newspaper.
While
many of us believe that we may be impotent
the events that are decided by university
officials and educators, students have more
power than we give ourselves credit.
