Maxson: head to toe 49er

Seventeen hundred lucky fans received a President Maxson bobblehead at the 49ers basketball game Wednesday night. Some fans even waited in line to get Maxson’s signature on their bobblehead before the game.

“President Maxson is so supportive in all of our athletics,” Executive Assistant to the President, Armando Contreras said. “I think it’s our way to thank him for that.”

President Maxson was happily taking photos and signing autographs for the fans and students of CSULB before the game. The fans poured in and rushed to the marketing table to retrieve their bobbleheads.

“At first I thought that it wasn’t a good idea, but its fun. Everyone is enjoying it, I’m enjoying it,” Maxson said.

Maxson joked about the bobblehead appearance, “I think it’s cute,” he said while laughing. “They could have made me more handsome though. I’m just joking, they did a good job.”

Fans received a scratcher when entering The Pyramid, which revealed if they had won a bobblehead or a two for one coupon to next Thursday’s basketball game against Cal State Fullerton. CSULB students were jumping with excitement when it was revealed they had won a bobblehead.

“Man, it’s excellent,” student Marlon Daniel said. “I’m really excited right now. President Maxson has always been so cool with the students.”

Lots of students admitted they only showed up because of the bobbleheads.

“I used to come to the games but my schedule conflicts this year,” student Brandon Hefley said. “I just showed up for the bobblehead. Now I have to go to class.”

“I think it’s awesome,” student Brenden Toda said. “It’s what I came to the game for.”

Most of the fans agreed that the bobblehead doesn’t exactly look like Maxson, but that it did display the right clothes. One student liked the pose that Maxson was in.

“I do like the finger pointing,” Erin Molter said. “It says Go Beach.”

Students said they are going to take the bobblehead and place it in their dorm rooms for everyone to see. Other students said they are going to leave it in the box as a memory of their college days.

Maxson has been a huge fan of sports at CSULB and said that he and his wife enjoy all the sporting events.

“We try not to miss any home games in all the sports,” Maxson said.

Maxson received a jacket from the United Parcel Service at halftime and a huge ovation from the crowd. UPS helped by splitting some of the costs for the production of the doll, which took place in Asia.
