Beach State softball found its way back
to the top of the Big West conference award
platform as the conference handed out honors
Tuesday afternoon.
Head Coach Pete Manarino won his fourth
Big West Conference Coach of the Year award.
He had previously won the award in 1986,
1997 and 1999.
After a 10-14 start Manarino and the 49ers
won 19 of their next 22 games to reach the
NCAA playoffs for the 14th time in school
history. Manarino, in his 20th season at
The Beach, also recorded his 700th career
victory this season.
Sophomore Meredith Cer-venka was named co-Big
West Pitcher of the Year as she compiled
a 15-8 record with a 1.16 ERA. Cervenka
won four consecutive pitcher of the week
awards while going 11-0 in league play and
pitching an astonishing 36 consecutive scoreless
innings.
Three other 49ers joined Manarino and Cervenka
as honorees as Arleigh Thorp, Lindsey Knoff
and Jamie Farnworth were all named to the
Big West all-conference team.
Thorp was a second team honoree as she batted
.310 this season with 15 doubles, while
Knoff and Farnworth were named Big West
Honorable Mention for their efforts this
season.
