Graduating
with Beach Pride
By Robert Maxson - CSULB president
Congratulations
to all of our graduating students. You are
earning good degrees from a very good university.
This is my favorite time of the year. There
is an air of excitement everywhere as our
students try to finish their classes and
prepare for their summer vacations, internships
or new jobs.
It has been a wonderful year at The Beach.
In addition to all of the learning that
has taken place inside the classrooms, laboratories
and studios on campus, many of our students
have received national recognition for their
academic and extracurricular activities.
Audrey Mink, a junior, won the national
championship in debate, our students placed
first in the national moot court competition,
and our debate team placed 7th in the nation
and was the highest ranked team from any
college in the West. Our cheerleading team
was third in the nation in the national
competition which took place in Orlando,
Florida, and our nationally ranked dance
team had another outstanding year in competitions.
In athletics, The Beach had another banner
year. At one time or another during the
past year, six of our sports teams were
ranked in the top 10 in the nation, including
women’s and men’s volleyball and water polo,
baseball and softball. Our baseball team
is currently ranked 3rd in the nation and
is entering the final stretch towards the
College World Series. We are all extremely
proud of our student-athletes who work so
hard and who bring a great deal of national
attention to our school.
I look forward to seeing our students and
their families at graduation. Beach
Pride is a unique and special thing among
our students. As you begin your careers
or graduate studies, I want you to always
remember your school, to always be an advocate
for our campus, and to tell everyone where
you graduated from. I am proud of all of
your accomplishments, and especially proud
to be able to serve as your president.
Go Beach!
