Letter
to the editor
Ignore Wachovsky and he will eventually
go away
I
was the first to have my letter to the editor
published in response to Wachovsky’s premiere
article, “Pacifists And Why I Hate Them.”
I wrote this letter, like many others did,
because I could not believe that such an
ignorant and inflammatory argument would
be printed in our school newspaper.
I was under the impression that students
here at least try to think, but in Wachovsky’s
case, I was wrong. I was hoping it was a
one-time mistake that this garbage was published,
but next week I saw another one of Wachovsky’s
attempts at reason.
Week after week, I read his empty-headed
dribble and for every article there was
a response from a student, calling him a
fool in so many words. I could not understand
why the editors kept printing his egotistical
rants with such a huge disapproval from
the student body.
It soon dawned on me that our overwhelming
responses were signaling to the staff at
the On-line Forty-Niner that readership
was increasing. They could use this fact
to sell more advertising space and increase
their income, so, of course, they would
give Wachovsky more exposure.
I am all for the On-line Forty-Niner getting
more income, but there is a huge problem
with using Wachovsky to get it. It only
encourages more shock journalism and downgrades
our paper’s credibility to that of a tabloid.
Readership will eventually drop off as students
grow tired of Wachovsky’s offspring and
their inane writing. Eventually, the On-line
Forty-Niner will be nothing more than a
hack rag.
Therefore, I ask all the readers of the
On-line Forty-Niner who have had enough
of Wachovsky to please ignore him. Pay no
attention to his articles and write no letters
in response. Help reclaim the On-line Forty-Niner
as a forum for the educated, rather than
the ignorant. I guarantee that if no one
responds to Wachovsky, he will go away.
Let him get on with his future in AM talk
radio, so we can get on with real journalism.
