State Long Beach has caught wind of Marmol
Radziner and Associates popular Santa Monica
based architecture firm and will host its
exhibit at the University Art Museum.
The New York Times Magazine named Leo Marmol
and Ron Radziner ‘the hottest young architect
in Los Angeles.’
The Art Museum will display the firm’s first
museum show titled, “Under Construction,”
featuring 3D models, photographs, drawings
and diagrams. The concept of the show will
be rough and unstructured. Displays
will feature tables with scattered pictures
and drawings, resembling that of an architect’s
desk at work.
The University Art Museum’s Curator of Exhibition,
Mary Kay Lombino said the exhibit is for
“anyone interested in buildings and design.
It will be really fun because there will
be a lot of things you wouldn’t normally
see in an art museum.”
There will be 16 projects on display, including
residences and restoration projects. One
of the featured restorations is a restoration
of a Frank Lloyd Wright’s home in Pasadena.
The exhibit was described as a “rare show,”
by Zulema Reynoso, an assistant at the Art
Museum and a student at CSULB. Reynoso said
the exhibit is the first one of its kind.
“Under Construction” will open Tuesday,
Jan. 28 at the Art Museum located in the
North Campus Center. The exhibit will be
available to viewers Jan. 28 through April
20.
On Tuesday, Feb. 18, from 12:15 p.m. to
1 p.m., Radziner and Marmol will do a walk-through
of the exhibit and an informal discussion
about their work.
Wednsday, March 5 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
there will be a lecture at the Art Museum
by Michael Webb, a Los Angeles-based architectural
critic and author.
On Saturday, March 29, there will be an
all day tour of projects by Marmol Radziner
and Associates in the Los Angeles area.
