Keeping
healthy, beautiful lips with proper care

Lips,
aside from being plain and gorgeous, play
the most active role on our faces. On a
regular basis, they naturally steal the
spotlight.
Very few things in this world have the power
to make you feel instantly pretty — gloss
is one of those things. My fanaticism for
lip products has turned me into a connoisseur
of lip-toppers. Let me share some old standbys
that I have successfully tweaked and have
personally used for years.
As you should know, never use lipstick on
flaky or chapped lips. When you find your
lips in this condition, it is time to exfoliate
them. Use a toothbrush and lip balm to gently
brush off flakes. Get a petite toothbrush
for the sole use of lip exfoliation. They
have ‘the softest bristles and they are
smaller, so you will not be irritating skin
around your mouth. Secondly, do this at
the end of taking a shower. When you have
been in the shower for about 10 minutes,
your lips are moist and the toothbrush has
softened up a bit. Use a lip balm like Carmex
or Smith’s Rosebud Salve and you will achieve
super smooth lips.
When wearing lipstick, never put in on over
a petroleum-based product. If you do, your
lipstick will wear off much more fast because
petroleum breaks down pigment in lipstick.
If you want a nice stain on your lips, get
a really dark berry or red “color-stay”
lipstick and put it on at the beginning
of your makeup application. When you are
done, wipe off the color and apply clear
gloss. For a fresh, monochromatic mouth,
outline your lips with a neutral liner.
Apply your own foundation to the lips. Do
not forget to top off with gloss, it will
look really weird if you don’t! This looks
especially good on blondes.
Finally, make your own lipstick and gloss
pallet. Buy a daily pill schedulers at the
drug store (or ask great grandma for hers).
Slice off hunks of your favorite lipsticks
in different tones and colors. Place each
color and squeeze some gloss into its own
compartment. When you go to do your mouth
— you have the ability to combine colors
and customize until you get it just right.
And lastly, if you don’t have a lip brush,
go get one! Lipstick will go on evenly,
plus it’s harder to overdo this way!
