Freshman
impresses in women's golf tournament

The
Long Beach State women's golf team opened
the season just as they did the previous
year, with a mediocre ninth-place finish.
UNLV
won the team title with a 905 and TCU came
in second at 917, while the individual championship
went to TCU's Brooke Tull who shot a 219
(74-70-75).
The
49ers shot a satisfactory three round total
of 947 (315-315-317) at the Oregon State
Invitational at the Woodlands Golf Course
in Sunriver, Oregon, but that is no reason
to worry. In fact, there is good reason
to rejoice.
After
a ninth-place finish to open the season
last year, the 49ers rebounded to finish
fourth at the Big West Championships. And
last year they didn't have freshman Kim
Bolee.
In
Bolee's first collegiate tournament, she
placed in 14th overall with two-day total
of 231 (79-74-78), leading all 49er golfers.
Although good things were expected from
Bolee, a former SCPGA Player of the Year
and America s Cup member, I don t think
anyone expected her to out shoot all her
teammates.
Last
year's all Big West second team selection,
Hayley Wilkinsin finished the three-round
tournament with a 234 (78-80-76), placing
21st.
The
49ers will play next at Edean Ihlanfeldt
Invitational at Sahalee Country Club in
Sammamish, Wash. on October 6-8.
