Letter
to the editor: Republican responds to anti-war
column
The
College Republicans would like thank Thomas
Hartnett for his editorial in the Sept.
11 edition of our beloved On-line Forty-Niner.
In his article Thomas blasts both our organization
and the Bush Administration. His main argument
is aimed at Bush's proposal to cut combat
troops' pay by a mere $75 a month. If Thomas
would have read the article right above
his, he would have read why Bush was forced
to propose such a measure. Bush has recently
asked for an additional $87 billion dollars
for the continuing conflicts in Iraq. This
money would go toward our men and women
serving for our country.
The
College Republicans respects Thomas's views
on the war and on homeland security, but
we hold a different view. We believe the
answer to the question he posed "Should
we go to war?" is yes, especially in
honor of Sept. 11. It is quite necessary
to look at the world in which we are living.
Our men and women in the armed forces are
fighting for someone else's freedom. They
are not just fighting for another country's
freedom but also our freedom and security
here at home. What is nobler than that?
We as an organization are proud to support
not only our troops but their and our leader
President Bush.
Members
of the College Republicans have and still
are working closely with other organizations
and naval bases to keep troop morale up
and also letting troops know that we as
Americans still do support our brave troops.
During
the Week of Welcome put on by Associated
Students Inc., we, the College Republicans,
have made our names and faces visible to
the campus. We are getting more involved
in the community with sign ups for AIDS
Walk Los Angeles, recycling projects, beach
cleanups, trying to get speakers to come
to the school, and helping A.S.I. as much
as we can to make this school as good as
it can be.
Thomas
"declared war" on the College
Republicans and called our organization
and supporters "Hitler's youth."
Thomas wanted to know where we are now.
We are on campus, off campus, in your classes,
in the library, in your dorms, in the cafeterias,
and we are most definitely not going anywhere.
