Outsourcing the facts, wrong ones

If Jason Garthoffner wants to use "facts" to advocate "truth," then he should do some genuine research. It is very obvious that Mr. Garthoffner cherry-picked his source, the Institute of Historical Review, to justify his ludicrous claim that the American Civil Liberties Union did not fight on behalf of Japanese-Americans during WWII. A majority of the material that the Institute of Historical Review publishes actually argues that the Holocaust never happened! Great reliable source, Jason.

I, on the other hand, like to get my facts from the actual cases of which I am talking about. These are called "primary sources." A quick check of the actual cases in question, Korematsu, Hirabayshi and Endo, will reveal that the ACLU not only filed "amici curiae" briefs on behalf of the Japanese, but they also argued two of the cases themselves before the Supreme Court (See Lexis-Nexis, a reliable database).

I find it incredibly ironic that Mr. Garthoffner argues that he is not a revisionist, yet quotes, as authority, a Web site whose cover page admits it is committed to a "revisionist perspective." He accuses liberals of rewriting history to suit their needs while his entire argument uses revisionist history to justify itself.

These are not the only flaws in an argument so laden full of logical inconsistencies that the constant mention of Orwell could only serve as comedic satire. Mr. Garthoffner betrays himself with comments like "don't criticize Bush for locking up a hundred people guilty of something." Nevermind innocent until proven guilty, he has no idea what they are "guilty" of. Another favorite, "ACLU admits they cannot find one instance of a civil rights violation in the Patriot Acts." For the record, the ACLU began litigation in Federal District Court concerning section 209 of the Patriot Acts the morning his article was published. And I am not even going to dignify the nonsense about "Democrats make criminals why Republicans catch them" with a response.

I think it is great Mr. Garthoffner has an opinion about these issues. But if he wants to start calling liberals Orwellian revisionists, then he better have some real facts about his views.

Before he calls liberals hypocrites, he should take a good look in the mirror, or better yet, do some real research.
