Arnold's podium: rickety at best

It's hard to imagine how people felt when some actor was elected as president. But it's even harder to imagine the beefcake star of such classics as Commando and Hercules in New York in the cockpit of a wildly in debt state.

Nothing against Austrians and all, but when the steroid pumping iron man starred in his first movie, "Hercules in new York" he couldn't even speak his own part. Badly dubbed over perfectly American lines seem odd on the hulking behemoth.

Swarzenegger has come a long way since his weight lifting days where the highly competitive Arnold was known to work hard against his opponent's mental game. Although such tenacity may be beneficial in Hollywood and weightlifting, it would seem that state government would require a little more teamwork than Arnold may be capable of.

His connections from Austria have sometimes been called in to question. He received presents at his wedding and later tearfully thanking former Austrian President Kurt Waldheim who has had his affiliation with Nazis called into question. Swarzenegger later realized the public relations faux pas of having these kind of friends and detached himself from his old friend with a public statement.

Apart from his past, his personality, and his total lack of his experience his previous dabbling in politics are a little less than successful.  Proposition 49 to promote before and after school programs for kids may have been a big hurrah in the public view, but it won't be able to be put into action for seven years. Why?

Because Arnold's proposition didn't have any funding for his program written in to the bill. It was just expected to run off of general fund money that we all know we don't have.

So is this the guy who is going to save California from itself and be the people's governor. Where does he get off thinking that being a top billed actor should get him into a governors position, and that pulling a few half brain propositions that only have one wheel and can not run by themselves.

Just because Warren Buffet is his financial advisor does not mean the economy can be fixed.  Especially with Arnold's on the fence views.

He is for gay rights but thinks marriage is for men and women.  He's against assault rifles but thinks people should be allowed to carry handguns.  It sounds like he is the perfect advocate for the middle of the road voter who does not really care what his views are as long as they recognize the biggest name on the ballot, literally.

People need to get a clue from his choice to tactfully evade open debates where people may pop a surprise question on him. He's only going to one debate where he knows the questions ahead of time and even at his speech given on campus he would not take any questions. Who is he trying to kid?

He's an actor playing at politics and that is the last thing this state needs. To turn a circus bureaucracy into a scripted bureaucracy is hardly a move in the right direction and voters need to see that before placing their vote with Arnie.
