Voters blind to truth

Danielle Sawyer
Rythms for Womyn

I am sitting here tonight in sheer disgust as I watch the recall election with 9 percent of the votes counted with the Terminator in the lead with 50 percent of those votes. Are we so close to Hollywood that we are blind to the facts? Arnold, a man who has abused his power position in the past, is very capable of abusing his power in office. Why has California taken him into consideration? Are we so desperate that we blatantly shut our eyes to sexism, chauvinism, racism and most of all, ignorance, simply because someone is a Hollywood star? Women are in love with his accent and softer Kindergarten Cop side and men love his masculine Predator and Terminator side, but are these enough to run one of the largest states in the country? Are we so far gone intelligently that we are willing to throw in the towel of our politics to an inexperienced, money-hungry, selfish wanna-be politician? Do we really believe an ex-bodybuilder, turned actor, turned husband to a woman in a very famous political family (what a coincidence) is truly interested in the good will of the majority of Californians? Are actors people too? Am I being to hard towards a star especially since we have had Ronald Reagan, Clint Eastwood, Sonny Bono, and even the WWF star, Jesse Ventura as past politicians? I don't think so.

There has not been one supportive statement for Arnie as a politician except for promises that he will not be able to keep (hence the acting experience has come in handy), especially for anyone who is not rich and famous (so to speak). I feel sorry, embarrassed and sick today because I have been exposed to a forum of people who vote with money in their eyes and an obese love for the media in their hearts instead of a population concerned for the well-being of all its citizens and not their selfish desires as individuals.

If you are still not sure about joining the Arnold train, just go ask the 15 women who have had close, "unwanted" relationships with him or remind yourself that he is an actor, and with this performance he deserves an Oscar. Be careful what you vote for, it just may bite you in the ass! (P.S. Arnie, remember where you experienced your first rotten political egg -- Cal State Long Beach!)
