Letter
to the editor: Uninformed
I
was offended when I read the opinion piece
of Gerry Wachovsky's "Racial Double
Standards" on Sept. 23. What appalled
me most from his article was his response
to the Campus Progressive Club.
I
had the opportunity to attend a meeting
last week, and I do not agree with his statement
when he said that the club "supports
silly and illogical ideologies...who are,
for all intents and purposes, neo-communists
that hate President Bush for no reason other
than the fact he is a Republican."
Has
Mr. Wachovsky ever been to a meeting and
actually talked with the members of the
club? Is he even aware of what their mission
statement is? "Our mission/goal is
to promote progressive political and social
awareness on campus through education, demonstration,
and direct action. We affiliate with no
political parties and are not accountable
to any other political organizations. We
will work with other groups and individuals,
without sacrificing our own independence,
to achieve common goals."
The
group is liberal, open minded and willing
to fight for causes for the greater good.
The club does not hate Bush for no reason
but because of the way Bush has handled
our nation with military action and his
"fictitious" lies as Michael Moore
once stated about the war with Iraq. The
fact that the nation's unemployment rate
has steadily increased under Bush's administration
is an ominous sign that he is not born to
lead. He promises false hope and due to
his tax breaks, there is a wider polarization
between the rich and poor. Because of this,
the deficit has exploded.
There
is nothing silly about the Campus Progressive
club. The people in the club are at least
making an effort to speak out against the
opposition and attempting to make a difference.
So before you start bashing the club with
lies and false accusations, you should educate
yourself and take a less biased view than
you do with your pro-Bush views.
His
article is irrelevant because Caucasians
are the majority and we do not need a club
to rub into other minority's noses. There
are other clubs people can join that would
not created "racial tension."
