Letters
to the editor: Right for once?
I
sympathize with those who depend on Gerry
Wachovsky's weekly column for their knowledge
of the world. However in the interest of
contributing to the marketplace of ideas,
and seeing how I was in Saudi Arabia just
this summer, I feel compelled to agree with
the comment Mr. Wachovsky made in regards
to the rights of women in that country.
He could not be more on the mark with this
one.
Saudi
Arabian women lack the right we have come
to take for granted as Americans. The women
are deprived of the opportunity to be judged
based on their outer beauty as opposed to
that of their mind and soul. These unfortunate
women lack the ability to be impregnated
without a prior financial and social commitment
from their mate. Worst of all though, Saudi
Arabian women do not have the right to be
employed by corporations who would in turn
use their scantily clad bodies to sell worthless
products, trashy magazines or television
shows. I will pray to my God and I hope
all of you pray to your respective deities
that the mistreated Saudi Arabian women
be liberated.
