Letters
to the editor: Minority complex
I
am tired with the image that is being presented
of Latinos, especially in light of the whole
recall election. I could bear with most
of the stuff those politicians were saying
until the 9th Circuit Court ruled that minorities
such as myself are not smart enough to figure
out how to use a punch card. Hearing politician's
opinions of Latinos and how disadvantaged
we are, I almost started to believe it,
and even developed a minority complex, which
I am still recovering from. The only thing
I could think to do to counter this attitude
among politicians and for Latinos who are
also developing a minority complex was for
me to make the following statement:
We
are not victims of society; we are a people
that have just as much potential and abilities
as everyone else, with just as much opportunity
especially in America. We don't need politician's
hand-me-downs. If we succeed don't let it
be as minorities, Latinos nor disabled,
but as "Human Beings" from one
creator for the benefit of "the human
race."
