Letters to the editor: Biased Reporting?

I was dismayed to read the one-sided, front-page article by Angelika Meyer, "Immigrant license bill creates controversy."

Firstly, the headline should have read "Illegal Immigrant" Let's call it what it is!

This article quotes the views of one person who, to most Long Beach students, is totally unknown. Meyer tells us Matt Tailor is a rhetorician -- whatever that is -- and director of forensics -- where, in Tonga. I can see nothing in these qualifications to justify the prominent publication of his unchallenged views on immigration. Instead of "integrating illegals into the system," what about enforcing the laws of the state and the country? I thought crime was not supposed to pay?

Post Sept. 11, the Californian Legislature should be doing all it can to protect the state's borders and its citizens. If only 19 of the 2 million illegal immigrants eligible to apply for a license are terrorists, we have provided them with the means to board other planes to fly them into other buildings. I don't thing this is a price worth paying.
