Dining Plaza offers students variety

Several Cal State Long Beach students relax outside of the University Dining Plaza during the last few days of the summer session

Research has long shown that food is not only fuel for the body, it is also food for the brain, so knowing where to get the best food is essential for students attending Cal State Long Beach for the first time.

The University Dining Plaza is located on Upper Campus near the University Student Union, and has a plethora of food choices to satisfy even the pickiest of appetites.

From gourmet a la carte menus to Taco Bell's fast and filling combo meals, to take out, order-ahead, dine-in or delivery, it can all be found at the plaza.

The Chartroom is a waited dining room for those who prefer the a la carte menu and relaxed atmosphere.

It also boasts an all-you-can-eat buffet. Reservations can be made by calling (562) 985-4090.

The Nugget, located next to the Chartroom serves grilled hamburgers, sandwiches and pizza, and beer and wine from its micro pub.

Also, Friday evenings at The Nugget can be reserved for clubs, organizations or private groups to have pizza parties for up to 200 people.

Inside the plaza area, there is the Boar's Head Deli to the left, where students can get deli sandwiches, soups and salads.

If you do not have time to stand in line, call ahead and they will have your sandwich ready for pick up. That number is (562) 985-4005.

Also inside the plaza is Le Bakery, a little café area with televisions propped high in several corners that serves specialty coffees, bagels, muffins, danishes and donuts.

Behind Le Bakery is Taco Bell, the menu of which is well known by almost all by now. Tomassito's serves Italian pasta dishes and salads and Chick Fil A serves fast food chicken, some grilled, as well as fries.

For a slightly different taste on the pallet, CSULB has its own Panda express, offering various Asian foods, or there is Culinary Wrap, a unique little place located at the outer end of the plaza, which serves Mediterranean wraps, meat bowls, salads and possibly the best fries on campus.

All eateries at the plaza accept major credit cards and the CSULB student club card. Hours vary from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m, depending on what day of the week it is. Most campus restaurants are closed Saturday and Sundays.

For more information on any of the restaurants call the University Dining Plaza Offices at (562) 985-4138.
