Everclear's front man, Alexakis goes solo with new tour, new album

By Kristen Wooley
Daily Forty Niner

Art Alexakis, lead singer of Everclear, once a band that rocked and touched it's listeners, is touring to promote his upcoming solo album.

On-line Forty-Niner: What have you been up to since your last Everclear album was released?

Art Alexakis: Well people may have thought that our last album was out in 2000, but really we put out an album last March called "Slow Motion Day Dream," which was a big rock record.

DFN: What are your thoughts on the band breaking up?

AA: We just needed a long break to do our own thing, but yeah, we are broken up. I have been working on songs for a departure where I want to concentrate more on the singer and songwriter aspect.

DFN: What are some of the struggles of being a musician?

AA: Either you're a struggling musician that gets paid or doesn't get paid. I've been both. Then when you become a struggling musician that's getting paid, you start to have to deal with what success means, how people view you and how you view yourself.

DFN: What piece of advice might you give aspiring musicians?

AA: You are swimming in a small body of water with big sharks. People are vicious and horrible in the industry.

DFN: Does that mean if you could go back, you would change it all?

AA: No, I wouldn't, but I didn't really have a choice because this is what I was supposed to do. You just really, really have to want it or find something else to do with your life.
