Blues
fans should prepare for heat wave
By Miguel Lopez
Summer Forty-Niner
Hot weather is
in store for both days of the 23rd Annual Long Beach Blues
Festival so people should prepare for the heat according to
Gary Chiachi, special events coordinator for KKJZ.
“We recommend for people to come prepared for the heat,” Chiachi
said. Some items recommended are water, sunblock and sunglasses.
Water is going to be available for free at locations at the
concert and also will be available for purchase through concession
stands.
The athletic field will have no shade available except in
the handicapped and medical area. Umbrellas will not be allowed
into the venue. Visors and hats are permitted, however, and
also recommended at the festival.
“Paramedics are going to be present at the concert in case
of any incidents that might occur,” Chiachi said. “There have
been some cases of heat exhaustion in past years, but nothing
serious.”
Nearly 100 portable restrooms, that will be cleaned regularly
for the 10,000 people expected per day, are going to be accessible.
“Heat exhaustion and not enough restrooms will not be a issue,”
Chiachi said. “People are going to be here for good music
and fun. That is what they will get.”
