L.B. band draws crowd in at Roxy

By Heather Clarke
Summer On-line Forty-Niner

HOLLYWOOD— One Draw opened Long Beach style for Bob Marley’s Grammy Award winning son, Damien “Junior Gong” Marley at the Roxy Monday night.

The Long Beach based band, One Draw, gave an excellent performance. The reggae influenced rock band received a warm response from the packed crowd. One Draw quickly won over the Damien Marley fans with their lyrics and memorable melodies combined with their reggae undertones.

One Draw does justice to the Long Beach music scene, being a local band with real talent and style. The band members all appear to be different from each other but mesh perfectly together musically. Local music supporters can see One Draw at Kosmo’s in Huntington Beach this Saturday.

The band prepped the crowd for Junior Gong by filling the small venue with energy that got the crowd to sing to one of their catchy songs, “Sensi”. The crowd waved their arms to the beats and yelled in approval.

By the time Junior Gong made his appearance on stage the anxious crowd had turned the Roxy into a sauna. The crowd became excited when Junior Gong appeared from behind the curtains.

The performance was extremely energetic with “Junior Gong” jumping to the beats while his long dread locks bounced wildly. “Junior Gong” had the entire crowd jumping and singing his songs with him.

The talent that night at the Roxy was strong. The only down fall was the venue. Bodies pressed tightly together in the small, unventilated building left everyone dripping from the heat, which made it hard to enjoy the performance. However, Junior Gong’s strong connection with the audience kept the crowd bouncing with the songs to the very end, despite the heat.
