Seaside
jazz series grooves in L.B.
By Miguel Lopez
Summer On-line Forty-Niner
The cool ocean
breeze and overcast skies welcomed the Seaside Jazz concert
series back to the Long Beach Museum of Art for the 16th year
on June 20.
Over 200 concertgoers filled the center garden at the museum
for the opening show of the eight part summer concert series
put on by 94.7 the WAVE and Spaghettini Italian Grill restaurant.
World-renowned guitarist Paul Jackson, Jr. led off the first
concert with a two-hour set of his smooth songs and catchy
cover songs from artists such as Brian McKnight and Outkast.
“It’s a pretty cold night but the music is great,” said concertgoer
and Long Beach resident Annette Norberg. “This is the first
time I’ve been to one of these concerts. The atmosphere is
great.”
The small audience provided an intimate feeling and a quality
concert. The beach backdrop gives an intense view of the Pacific
Ocean from the museum. The typical jazz fanatics were in attendance,
but so were many young jazz fans. Children to adults were
able to enjoy the food provided by Spaghettini Resturant.
All galleries and exhibits were also open to the guests through
the concert.
The Seaside Jazz concert series will be scheduled every Thursday,
except July 4, from June 20 until August 15 with the shows
begining at 7 p.m. On June 27 is Latin rock and jazz artist
Pete Escovedo Orchestra featuring Sheila E. Also scheduled
to play at future concerts are saxophonist Everette Harp,
70s and 80’s hit band War, guitarist Joyce Cooling, jazz experts
Brian Hughes & Michael Paulo band, contemporary jazz players
Eric Marienthal & Jeff Lorber.
