Bands
pump up the volume

The Exit, The Ghost
and The Velvet Teen’s United States tour came through Anaheim
with a stop at Chain Reaction on June 18th. The tour added
Limbeck to headline the show to add a touch of local flavor
to the line-up.
The Velvet Teen kicked off the show. The band started out
very mellow and not too impressive, but then they came out
of nowhere with a terrific set of energetic rock songs. The
Velvet Teen combine moving lyrics, melodic vocals, thundering
drumbeats and steady bass lines, to form a unique and innovative
sound. The band sounded great the entire set but then switched
gears at the end of their set as they brought out a keyboard
and played a soft and melodic ballad. The mellow song took
away from the bands stage presence and by looking at the crowd
it was obvious that they were getting a bit bored as they
yawned and glanced at their watches. The tone of the club
became extremely mellow as the band left the stage.
Straight out of Chicago, The Ghost put an end to the mellowness
left behind by the Velvet Teen as they rocked the audience
with a collection of aggressive, yet catchy songs. The Ghost
has an incredible stage presence and the guys in the band
looked like they were having a lot of fun on stage. Randy
Bleichner, the drummer, was incredible as he banged away with
so much intensity and charisma it was a shame that he was
not closer to the front for the audience to see his amazing
drum work. Not that Bleichner overshadowed the rest of the
band, who also consisted of extremely strong musicians, but
he definitely stood out.
Singer, Brian Moss said he was glad to be playing in Anaheim
because the night before they played in Los Angeles to a smaller
crowd. The Ghost overflowed with power and energy and added
a very positive and fun angle to the show.
The Exit is an incredible band-plain and simple. The band’s
sound is a cross between the Clash and Bruce Springsteen,
an interesting combination. From the moment they set a foot
on stage, the group blasted out intense energy and rocking
music. The three-piece group definitely stood out from the
other bands on the bill because of their punk rock guitar
hooks. The band rocked the crowd displaying their unbelievable
charisma and raw talent. The Exit played an intense set, which
fueled the crowd and got them ready for headliners, Limbeck.
Limbeck never fail to impress me with their fun and poppy
music and great stage presence. The band plays a lot of light-hearted
and catchy songs but they are also very serious in their musicianship.
The band’s rocking guitars hooked the audience in and their
strong stage presence kept them watching. The entire band
was jumping around the stage as they were banging through
many new songs and also some songs off their last album,’“This
Chapter is Called Titles.” Some of the songs played from the
album included “Drive on Highways,””“Blurry” and the poppy,
“Images.” Singer and guitar player, Robb Maclean and guitarist
Patrick Carrie provided funny jokes while belting out melodic
vocals and rocking out on their guitars, while bassist, Justin
Entsminger jammed on the bass and drummer, Matt Stephens tore
it up on the drums, making for a fun and exciting show. Overall,
Limbeck played a great set and closed the rock show brilliantly.
