KROQ'S Weenie Roast sizzles again

By Sarah Davis and Heather Clarke
Summer On-line Forty-Niner

If you did not attend the 10th Annual KROQ Weenie Roast at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine July 15, you missed an impressive show.

“This is the first Weenie Roast I have attended, and I will definitely come back next year,” said Jenny Mooney of Huntington Beach. “What a bargain. I paid about fifty bucks and will see 16 awesome performances. ”

The side stage opened with new comer Jack Johnson at 1 p.m. with acoustic surf music and proceeded with The Vines, Hoobastank and Unwritten Law.

“It feels about 100 degrees in the direct sun, but it is worth it because I will see my favorite bands including Incubus, Rob Zombie and P.O.D.,” said Mandy Moore of Fullerton.

New Found Glory kicked off the music on the main stage at 4 p.m. The following bands, Bad Religion, The Strokes, Jimmy Eat World, Papa Roach, Rob Zombie, Moby, Incubus and P.O.D. also filled the bill. Each band, differing in style and intensity, stirred the crowd with their own energy, which gave the show interest and kept people going.

Special guest performance was by the all-time college band Violent Femmes who always puts on a good show with their classic college anthems.

With the varity of bands playing the Weenie Roast, there was a little something for everyone.

“Incubus is by far my favorite band because Brandon is so hot, “ said Sarah Stickland from Long Beach.

The long awaited preformance at 11 p.m. concluded the show with System of a Down’s blend of alternative rock and metal. By this time of the night, the crowd was worked up in a frenzied mosh pit throughout the entire amphitheater.
