Finding
inspiration for this Father's Day
By Sarah Davis
Summer On-line Forty-Niner
Father's Day is
celebrated on the third Sunday of June to honor patriarchs
around the globe through words, actions or gifts.
"I want to make my father feel extra special today, but
I'm not quite sure what to plan," said Jennifer Moons,
a student at Cal State Long Beach.
All men have their own styles, so a thoughtful tribute on
this day depends on your father's interests. If he is sentimental,
then write him a poem about the special relationship you share
with one another. A classic example is "You Are Everything
a Father Should Be," written by M. Joye:
A father is a guide on the journey to adulthood, a teacher
of morals and values. He listens to problems and helps to
find their solutions. He is a friend, always there to share
the good and the bad. He is someone who gets respect because
he deserves it, trust because he earns it, and love because
of all he is.
If your dad is adventurous, then plan a day together to go
to a sporting event or an all-day hike. Make sure to involve
snacks and gourmet food for the day. He will appreciate your
creativity as well as the bonding experience.
"Last year I brought my dad to the nature center for
a picnic and he was very touched," said Carla Davis,
a student at CSULB.
If you are not close to your father figure, then send him
a gift to show you are thinking about him. Gifts may include
a tie, shirt, hat, music, books, cigars, or a gift certificate
to his favorite store, maybe Home Depot. Make sure to include
a unique card.
Father's Day is a great opportunity to show and tell him how
important he is in your life, so make a special effort to
do something imaginative for your dad!
