closed the match with a service ace that helped the Long Beach
State men's volleyball team beat UC San Diego, 30-22, 30-21,
30-18, in the 49ers final home game of the season Thursday
at The Pyramid.
The 49ers improve their record to 12-16 overall and 8-12 in
the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation while the Tritons fall
to 5-21 overall and 1-19 in the MPSF.
LBSU has come back to win five of its last six matches
following a seven-game losing streak that began with a loss
to the Tritons.
"The team has shown a lot of heart this season,"
LBSU coach Alan Knipe said, "and found a way to end the
season strong."
The 49ers wrap up the season when they travel to Irvine to
play UC Irvine with hopes of clinching one of the last two
spots in the MPSF Tournament.
"We have the confidence to win," senior Jeremy Blain
said. "But sometimes we question that confidence ...
that comes from inexperience from our young team."
The 49ers ended game three with a team hitting percent average
of .375 and hit .306 for the match. Senior Tim May led the
way with the game-high hitting percentage of .636. Blain added
25 assists, David Lee had seven block assists that added to
the LBSU's 11 blocks and Jeff Wootton had nine kills.
"We're not worried about the other teams right now,"
senior Nick Marbach said. "We're just focused on making
it to the playoffs."
