Dirtbags take
out frustrations on Lions
Baseball:
Eleven-run third inning helps LBSU blow out LMU.
Staff reports
Long Beach State
wiped out a three-game losing streak with a 19-9 shellacking
of Loyola Marymount in a nonconference baseball game Tuesday
at Page Stadium in Los Angeles.
Coming off a three-game
sweep at the hands on Big West Conference rival UC Irvine,
The Dirtbags took an early 2-0 lead and blew the game open
with 11 runs in the third inning - the second time in a week
LBSU has scored over 10 runs in an inning.
The game was far
from a pitchers duel on either side. The Dirtbags banged out
20 hits, while LMU had 19. After a scoreless first inning,
LBSU scored in every other inning but the ninth; the Lions
scored in every other inning but the second.
Dirtbag starter
Daniel Eisentrager (7-3) gave up 10 hits and three earned
runs in four innings to pick up the victory.
Among the gaudy
numbers for the Dirtbags included Nick Covarrubias four
hits, three runs scored and three RBIs, Paul McAnultys
two hits, four RBIs and three runs scored, and Chris Genung
and Nick Orlandos with three hits and two RBIs each.
Chris Wright had
two hits, two runs scored and two RBIs for the Dirtbags. The
two hits - a two-run double in the second and a single in
the seventh - tied Chuck Lopez's LBSUs career-record
for hits with 245.
Covarrubias, McAnulty
and Jeremy Reed all homered for the Dirtbags. Reed also scored
three runs and stole his team-leading 15th base of the season.
Reed and Tim Hutting, who had two hits, scored three runs
and had two RBIs, each extended their hitting streaks to 12
games.
