Long Beach State
hosted several top college and international athletes Saturday
at the Long Beach Invitational at Jack Rose Track, and the
meet produced some top performances by Beach athletes.
The 49er women's 4 x 400 relay team won in a time of 3:43.41,
Frank Rodriguez won the javelin competition with a throw of
211-0 feet, and Serena Boykin took home the women's discus
title at 45.4 meters. Boykin also finished third in the shot
put at 14.73 meters.
Rodriguez' teammate Sean Blandford finished second in the
javelin at 203-5 feet.
Other notable Beach performances included Emily Forsythe,
who finished second in the women's high jump at 5-7 feet,
and Chaka Cofie, who was second in the men's long jump with
a leap of 23-8 3/4 feet.
Other top three 49er finishers were Stephanie Sampson, third
in the women's hammer throw at 55.32 meters, and Brian Robles,
third in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:43.4.
