Long Beach State
parlayed a strong effort from starting pitcher Nate Beucler
and a 16-hit attack into a 10-1 nonconference baseball victory
over Miami Sunday in Miami.
Beucler went six innings, giving up four hits, one earned
run and striking out six and raised his record to 2-1.
Paul McAnulty, Nick Covarrubias and Jeremy Reed had three
hits each for the Dirtbags, who are now 25-12 on the season.
Miami is 20-19.
LBSU scored runs in each of the first four innings to build
a 7-0 lead and cruised from there.
Covarrubias had four RBIs on the day, including two run-scoring
doubles. McAnulty had two RBIs and also had a run-scoring
double.
Reed also had two RBIs and stole his 13th base of the season,
and McAnulty, Covarrubias, Kevin Randel and Tim Hutting each
scored two runs.
Dirtbag reliever Chris Demaria went the final three innings,
striking out four and picked up his second save of the season.
LBSU plays the University of San Diego Wednesday at 6:05 p.m.
at Blair Field before hosting Big West Conference rival UC
Irvine in a three-game series starting Friday.
