Beach
wins two, now prepares for postseason

The Long Beach
State women's water polo team beat host UC Irvine, 10-8, Thursday
and host Cal State Northridge, 9-5, Saturday in Mountain Pacific
Sports Federation matches to close the regular season.
With the two conference victories, The Beach registered its
first winning record in the MPSF (6-5) and also set the school
record for overall wins in a season (17). LBSU is 17-11 overall.
Roberta Stewart scored six goals against the Anteaters as
the 49ers scored the last five goals of the contest to wipe
out an 8-5 deficit. LBSU trailed at halftime, 6-3.
Stacy Black added two goals and Bri Hawkins had 10 saves in
goal against UCI.
Against CSUN, The Beach led, 7-1, thanks to a six-goal second
quarter. Robyn Gordin and Angelica Garcia scored two goals
each. Hawkins (four saves) and Amanda Wightman (three) split
time in goal for the 49ers.
The Beach next plays in the MPSF Championships starting Friday
at USC.
