UCI
takes down LBSU in three
Staff reports
UC Irvine fended
off several Long Beach State attacks and beat the 49ers, 30-26,
30-28, 30-24, in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men's
volleyball match Tuesday at Irvine.
Long Beach State is now 12-17 overall and 8-13 in the MPSF.
UCI is12-16 and 6-15.
The Anteaters led in the first game before LBSU came back
to within a point at 19-18, but a 6-2 UCI run ended the threat.
The Beach built a 21-18 lead in the second game only to see
UCI storm back to take a 27-24 lead. The 49er drew to within
28-27, but were unable to complete the comeback.
The teams were tied, 20-20, in the third game before the Anteaters
closed out the game and the match with a 10-4 spurt.
Jeff Wootton led The Beach with 12 kills, and Touzinsky added
10, including nine in the second game.
LBSU closes the regular season at UC Santa Barbara tonight
at 7 p.m.
