A final good bye and good luck

Dear 49ers:

Congratulations to the newest alumni of Cal State Long Beach. I have been so impressed with the level of commitment and dedication that you have given to your classes these past few years. This is, indeed, a special day in the life of the university.

I wish to welcome all the families to the beauty of our campus and to the celebration of this special day. The degrees of the new graduates today belong to each family member here and at home who have helped their 49ers earn this prestigious academic honor.

We're going to miss our graduates who have brought their dreams and enthusiasm to enhance the energy and spirit of campus life. I hope that our newest alumni will stay in touch. I encourage them to fully utilize all the opportunities and programs that are afforded year round here at The Beach. Please continue to attend as often as possible the arts and sports events sponsored by your alma mater.

Long Beach State is a very good university and I know that the education you received here will bring you abundant dividends throughout your lifetime. I know, too, that you will continue to enjoy the many friendships and connections that have begun here and that will support you for decades to come.

I hope that most of you will have the opportunity to attend a benefit concert sponsored by our social work alumni on Friday, which celebrates spring as the graduating season. This musical concert will benefit the Long Beach Mental Health Clinic and other nonprofit agencies that provide emergency food and medication to low-income senior citizens.

Graduates, I want you to remain passionate about your university. I want you to be an advocate for your university. I want you to be a spokesperson for your university. And, above all, I want you to always protect your university.

Go BEACH!
