New
bombing stalls peace
Israel was hit by the first suicide bombing in four weeks
Tuesday when a Palestinian blew himself up in a crowded pool
hall near Tel Aviv killing 16 people. The bombing occurred
while Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon was meeting with
President Bush in Washington.
The bombing not only struck another blow to the citizens of
Israel but also forced Sharon to return to Israel without
completing talks with Bush. As of Tuesday, Bush and Sharon
failed to reach any sort of common ground in the quest toward
peace.
After the bombing, Palestinian Authority leader Yasser Arafat
ordered all Palestinians to cease any sort of terrorist attacks
against Israel. But the situation may be beyond his control.
The amount of violence that is taking place between Israelis
and Palestinians is staggering. It is long past the time for
Sharon and Arafat to sack it up and begin meaningful peace
discussions. We feel that the only way any sort of peace will
ever be found is with the creation of a free Palestinian state.
Sharon may not like this plan but in reality, it is the only
route.
Bush has not been putting enough effort into the process nor
has he been exerting enough pressure on Arafat or Sharon.
Bush took on the job of world peace keeper and now he better
pay up.
Time magazine reported that Bush is finalizing plans to "remove"
Saddam Hussein from his dictatorship in Iraq. This removal
is more than likely to include a full-scale invasion. Administration
officials have said that the invasion is almost a certainty,
but when it takes place is dependent on some sort of cease-fire
in Israel.
If Bush wants to take out Hussein then he better make like
a computer and get with the program. Stability in all the
nations of the Middle East hinges on peace between Israel
and Palestine. It is time for Sharon, Arafat and Bush to step
up to the table.
