Bombs
show idiots still abound
Several pipe bombs were found in15 mailboxes in the Midwest
last week, accompanied by scathing anti-government letters.
The bombs, which wounded six people, were found in mailboxes
in Iowa, Illinois and Nebraska and are being investigated
by the FBI as acts of domestic terrorism.
The FBI feels that the same person or group of people built
and distributed the bombs, and FBI criminal profilers believe
the perpetrator is an older, white male.
For many years, rural areas of the Midwest have become stomping
grounds for militiamen and other far-right leaning "patriots,"
who believe the government has let them down with increasing
taxes, immigration and moves toward racial equality.
Yes Dorothy, they are almost all white supremacists.
But it seems the rigors of defending their rural homesteads
with double-barreled shotguns have taken a toll on the self-styled
patriots of the Midwest.
In the letters left with the bombs, the perpetrators wrote
"if the government controls what you want to do, they
control what you can do ... I'm obtaining your attention in
the only way I can. More info is on the way. More 'attention
getters (sic)' are on the way."
The militia movement is a frightening display of far-right
politics that has begun to take horribly ugly turns. For example,
Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh was a member of the militia
movement.
These people need to get the idea through their thick skulls
that trying to harm their innocent neighbors is not the way
to achieve their skewed goals.
It is disturbing for us to see people who supposedly love
America -- but hate any official associated with it -- would
go so far as to plant bombs in mailboxes where innocent men,
women, children and mail carriers might be harmed or killed.
Hey guys, we think little Suzie's facial features are a little
more important than the silly politics you learn listening
to Rush Limbaugh.
These guys live by the slogan "love it or leave it."
We think these guys should listen to themselves and get the
hell out.
