Letter

I'm writing in response to the campaign and the run-off elections that have been held on our campus for the last couple of weeks.

As a student with a right to a voice and an opinion, I would like to say that our candidates need to rethink their true stance and motives for being in office. It seems candidates can only slander their opponents and offer their outrageous hopes of reform, with no offers of clear paths of achievement.

They need to think why it is that only a very small fraction of the whole student population votes. It's not necessarily that they don't care, but more why should they vote for a student body association that cares more about themselves and the prestige an office may bring to their resume?

To actually encourage votes and support, try soliciting to ALL students. Being an Asian female, I find it quite astounding to see candidates and their entourages select the few and the caucasian for votes.

This has been going on since the beginning of the campaigns and it only increased with the recent run-offs. Too many candidates stand there and watch prospective voters walk by without saying a word or smile.

Just remember actions speak louder than words. By not speaking to the voters, these voters may have already made their decision not to vote...especially for you.
