KBEACH airs anti-Islamic statements

Hello, I am a Muslim engineering major at Cal State Long Beach and I feel I must comment on something that I heard the other day. As many of you probably know, KBEACH radio is CSULB's student radio station and it is broadcast at various places around campus. One night a few Tuesdays ago, at around 6 p.m., I was subject to a program called "The Alan Shadeway Show." The host of this program went on the air and proclaimed that Islam "is not a religion of peace, as it is so PC to say nowadays."

As a Muslim student, I can tell you that I was not happy to hear this viewpoint on my faith. I realize that this is a country where free speech is prevalent and on this same token I must voice my opinion. Contrary to what the host of this show said, Islam is a religion of peace and you can learn that by asking any Islamic student on campus.

I left my homeland of Saudi Arabia to come here to study and get a better education than I would have in my country of origin. I believe in and respect the laws of this country and I suppose Alan Shadeway has these same rights. For him to come on the air at a university, however, and speak wrongly of my religion (or any religion, for that matter) is not acceptable.

If you want to be subject to this person and listen to his show on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. on KBEACH radio, it is fine with me, but I will not agree with nor will I support his controversial views. He was a funny man at times, but his discordant view of my faith offended and struck a chord within me.  I thank you for reading this submission and ask all of you to give Islam a chance.
